Guests 55 and over swim free; others enter for half price

Asbury_KAC Sponsorship FB GraphicIn recognition of National Grandparents Day on Sunday, Sept. 13, Asbury Place continuing care retirement communities’ Kingsport campus will sponsor free admission to the Kingsport Aquatic Center for seniors ages 55 and over and half-price admission for other guests on the holiday.

Sandra Brown, executive director of Asbury Place Kingsport, said the National Grandparents Day sponsorship ties in well with the retirement community’s mission.

“Asbury Place is focused on meeting residents’ needs – emotional, social, physical and spiritual – and this is an excellent opportunity to encourage area seniors to be physically active and enjoy time with their loved ones,” Brown said. “Swimming is an ideal exercise for older adults because it’s a low-impact activity that uses all muscle groups.”

Kingsport Aquatic Center admission on Sept. 13 will be free for guests ages 55 and over with proper identification and half price for other ages. Admission for youth (ages 3-21) will be $3 and adults (ages 22-54) will be $4. Children ages 2 and under are free with a paying adult. The center’s outdoor water park will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and the indoor pool complex will be open noon-6 p.m.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for senior swim enthusiasts and guests of all ages to enjoy our outdoor and indoor water features, which offer activities for everyone,” said Kari Matheney, director of Kingsport Aquatic Center.

The outdoor water park features a large pool with a water playground and lily pad crossing, two water slides and a 900-foot lazy river. The aquatic center also has a 46,000-square-foot indoor complex, which includes three heated pools, including the region’s only indoor Olympic-sized pool.

The Kingsport Aquatic Center is located at 1820 Meadowview Parkway in Kingsport. Guests are encouraged to visit the center’s “Know Before You Go” page for guidelines intended to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests.
