Slyder Cup part of ACO World Championships at Knoxville Convention Center

The American Cornhole Organization (ACO) is kicking off its world championships by inviting teams of local businesses and individuals to participate in an open competition with the chance to win $3,000 in prize money.

The World Slyder Cup will be held Wednesday, July 8, at the Knoxville Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with music, drinks, food and the chance to compete with and watch some of the best cornhole players in the world.

The event is part of the ACO World Championships of Cornhole X, being hosted July 7-11 at the Knoxville Convention Center.

“Whether you think you’re the best cornhole player in the world or you just want to have a good time, this event has something for you,” said Frank Geers, president and CEO of ACO. “Help us kick off our world championships in Knoxville and welcome our pros to the city. The World Slyder Cup is a great opportunity for team-building for local businesses and a fun social gathering for friends.”

Teams of five to seven can register to participate in the amateur World Slyder Cup. Each team pays $150, which is $30 per person or less, and the deadline is July 1.

The first-place team will win $1,500; second place, $1,000; and third place, $500. Only two ACO professionals can compete on each team. Slyder Cup jerseys will be awarded to members of the three winning teams.

The ACO World Championships of Cornhole X is open to the public for spectators. World champions will be crowned in men’s singles, women’s singles, doubles, seniors and juniors cornhole events. Competitors in these events will receive up to $10,000 for a first-place finish.

ESPN’s SportsCenter will be in town Saturday, July 11, and will air the show on ESPN2 from 9 a.m. to noon during the cornhole championships.
