South College Nashville adds health science bachelor’s degree programs for in-demand career tracks

February 19, 2018

South College Nashville now offers three bachelor’s degree programs in health science, including pre-physical therapy and pre-physician assistant tracks, that prepare graduates for two of the fastest-growing careers in the health care industry.

In Tennessee between 2014 and 2024, physical therapist positions are expected to grow by 47.2 percent, and physician assistant positions are expected to grow by 44 percent according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The health science degree is versatile, and students are exposed to multiple health science disciplines.

“South College strives to offer programs that prepare students for meaningful and in-demand careers,” said Nick South, executive director of South College Nashville. “In addition, these baccalaureate health science programs prepare students for seeking advanced levels of education in fields such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant or physical therapy.”

Students choosing one of the focused tracks will build foundations for careers in the dynamic fields of pre-physical therapy or pre-physician assistant, while earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Science.

The bachelor’s degrees provide a foundational science education, including anatomy and physiology, biology and chemistry. Students also complete courses in health care administration; health care law and ethics; research; and leadership. Students may choose to seek opportunities in the workforce after graduation or pursue master’s and doctoral degrees in health care fields.

The South College Nashville campus offers modern laboratories, dedicated instructors, multimedia classrooms and small class sizes for personalized attention.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in health care across the country are expected to grow by at least 19 percent by 2024, adding about 2.3 million new jobs.
