Pilot presented a donation today of $100,000 to the MDA of Greater East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia from money raised through the sale of paper green shamrocks during the Shamrocks Against Dystrophy campaign, as well as from a Pilot-sponsored golf tournament to benefit MDA.

The check presentation to representatives of the Muscular Dystrophy Association was made at the Pilot Food Mart at 4800 Broadway in Knoxville. The paper shamrocks were sold to customers in all Knoxville-area Pilot Food Mart locations during the month of March.

“Pilot is truly grateful for the support of our great customers and those who took to the golf course, which is what made this donation possible,” said Dan Fleming, vice president of operations for Pilot. “The Muscular Dystrophy Association provides invaluable services to families across East Tennessee, and we are proud to partner with the organization. Our company headquarters is in Knoxville, and we are committed to helping the communities we serve.”

This is the 29th year that Pilot has offered the local fundraising program, and this year’s sale of paper shamrocks at Pilot stores, along with sponsorship of the golf tournament, resulted in $100,000 raised for MDA.

“Each dollar that is donated through the purchase of shamrocks goes to fund important programs that serve individuals and families in our 39-county service area, such as summer camps, clinical visits and occupational therapy,” said Ashley McCloud, fundraising coordinator for the MDA of Greater East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.”We are so grateful for the generosity of the many East Tennesseans who purchased shamrocks and played golf and especially grateful to Pilot for helping facilitate this substantial gift to our organization.”
