Bank donates $2,500 to Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in Koester’s name

Home Federal Bank named Elizabeth Koester a 2014 Hometown Hero and presented a check for $2,500 in her name to the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra at a ceremony at the Home Federal Bank Cedar Bluff branch on Wednesday, April 23.
In its fourth year, the Hometown Heroes program spotlights ordinary people who do extraordinary things for others and their community. Eight winners were selected for their extraordinary volunteer work based on nominations from area nonprofits and the general public.
A $2,500 donation is made in each honoree’s name to the nonprofit of his or her choice, and an overall winner of the eight finalists will have an additional $2,500 donation made in his or her name.
“This is the fourth year of the Hometown Heroes community service awards program, and I continue to be amazed at the tremendous work being done by dedicated volunteers who quietly serve in so many ways,” said Home Federal Bank President Dale Keasling. “People like Elizabeth, whose volunteer efforts help bring music into the lives of children throughout East Tennessee, exemplify what it means to be a Hometown Hero.”
Koester has tirelessly and effectively served the Knoxville Symphony League and Knoxville Symphony Orchestra since she and her husband relocated to Knoxville for retirement more than a decade ago. A key supporter of KSO’s youth music education programs, Koester serves as vice president of the Support Drive and chair of the Hospitality Committee for the Young People’s Concerts and is a key member of the Public Relations Committee. Koester also has served in a variety of leadership roles with the Knoxville Symphony League. Her contributions are credited with helping to make the KSO and Knoxville Symphony League the financially stable and vibrant groups they are today.
“Hometown Heroes affords us the opportunity to recognize some commendable individuals,” Keasling said. “Additionally, the program allows us to support many area nonprofits that do a lot of important work in our community.”
Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Rachel Ford accepted the donation on behalf of the organization.
