COVENANT HEALTH KNOXVILLE MARATHON FITTEST COMPANY CHALLENGE ENCOURAGES AREA COMPANIES TO GET FIT

Thanks to the Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Fittest Company Challenge presented by Humana, area businesses have an opportunity to participate in a friendly competition that promotes a healthy lifestyle, boosts company spirit and provides a fun way for employees to interact outside the office.

“The Fittest Company Challenge is an excellent way for companies to open the door to healthier living for their employees,” said Jason Altman, executive director for Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. “The contest is designed to encourage participation by companies of all sizes and employees at all fitness levels. There are categories for large, medium and small companies, and employees can participate in any event as a runner or walker. We encourage walkers to participate in the 5k or half marathon or as part of a relay team.”

As part of the contest, companies earn one point for each mile completed by a properly registered employee who finishes a race. For example, an employee completing an entire marathon earns 26.2 points for his or her company; a half-marathoner earns 13.1 points; and a four-person relay team earns 6.55 points per person.

Registration is available online or by mail and can be made corporately or on an individual basis. Employees who register individually must indicate their employer’s name during registration in order for the business to receive proper credit for their participation.

In last year’s competition first place winners included Clayton Homes in the large business category, Radio Systems Corporation in medium, and Air National Guard – TEC in small.

“We encourage area businesses to get involved and get fit,” said Altman. “Register today and put your employees on track to better health in 2015.”
