KNOXVILLE RESIDENTS TO GET MORE BANG FOR THEIR BUCK WITH MOBILE BROADBAND
U.S. Cellular will launch Mobile Broadband in Knoxville in 2009

U.S. Cellular announces plans to launch Mobile Broadband in the Knoxville market in early 2009. Through Evolution-Data Optimized (EVDO) technology, commonly referred to as 3G, the fast Internet access of the Mobile Broadband network is like going from dial-up to DSL.

“Wireless phone users will get more bang for their buck with Mobile Broadband,” said Jack Brundige, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Tennessee. “Mobile Broadband capability provides faster Internet access, which allows users to accomplish more on the go. You can maximize your phone’s capabilities to stay on top of the latest information and stay connected.”

Taking advantage of wireless phone capabilities can help busy Knoxville area residents stay on top of hectic schedules, accomplish more on the go and keep connected to what’s happening in the area. Knoxvillians can go to one convenient place – their cell phones – to look up information, rather than scouring the phonebook or looking for yesterday’s newspaper. And it’s ten times faster – at no additional cost to you.

Right now, U.S. Cellular customers use their phones to stay up to date on the latest news, weather and sports such as:

  • Check Tennessee Titans, UT Vols and high school sports scores
  • Buy movie and show tickets as soon as they go on sale for the Bijou Theatre, Tennessee Theatre, Thompson-Boling Arena and Knoxville Coliseum
  • Get traffic updates on the I-40 construction
  • Check on fantasy football teams
  • Find immediate resources and maps for specific locations around and out of town
  • Receive breaking news and weather information
  • Get school closing notices
  • Access health care sites “on the go”
  • Look up local events at Market Square, World’s Fair Park and the Knoxville Zoo
  • Share photos with family and friends
  • Pay bills, check account balances and make transfers
  • Check the open rides and show schedules at Dollywood

In early 2009, customers will be able to get the same information ten times faster with Mobile Broadband.

Mobile Broadband will be the time-saving, task-accomplishing tool for the professional on the go, the busy mom, the social networker and anyone who wants to stay connected and informed in East Tennessee.

The 8,700 associates of U.S. Cellular believe a wireless phone enhances people’s lives and a wireless company should be in the business of bringing people together. Based in Chicago, U.S. Cellular is the nation's sixth-largest wireless carrier, serving 6.2 million customers across the country.
