“Pilot strives to be a strong corporate steward and a positive member of the communities we serve,” said Jimmy Haslam, president and CEO of Pilot Travel Centers LLC. “To be named a finalist for this award is a tribute to our corporate philosophy to do the right thing all the time. We are grateful to Senator Jamie Woodson for nominating Pilot for this award, and we are honored by her support of our company.”
Pilot is a finalist in the category of Corporate Stewardship, Large Business. The annual Corporate Stewardship Award is a prestigious honor that recognizes a company for its sustained contribution to community and social progress.
“There are many strong candidates for the Corporate Stewardship Awards this year,” said BCLC Executive Director Stephen Jordan. “Pilot Travel Centers and all of the other finalists have shown that truly great businesses don’t just focus on the bottom line today. They work for the future benefit of their customers, employees, communities and investors, as well.”
A committee of prominent Americans chaired by Harvard University professor Michael Porter will select the 2008 Corporate Stewardship Award winner. Professor Porter and U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue will announce the winner during a celebration dinner on Nov. 18, 2008, at the historic National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. Six hundred business, civic and government leaders are expected to attend.
Four additional companies are 2008 finalists: Bank of America, KPMG LLP, Siemens USA and Verizon Communications. Additional information about the Corporate Citizenship Awards is available at www.uschamber.com/bclc/awards.
Headquartered in Knoxville, Tenn., Pilot is the largest operator of travel centers in the U.S. with more than 300 locations in 41 states and in Canada. Pilot is on pace for $16 billion in revenues for 2008.
