FIRST TENNESSEE FOUNDATION PROVIDES MAJOR GRANTS TO LEGACY PARKS, URBAN LEAGUE, VETERANS MEMORIAL

First Tennessee Foundation continues its record of supporting worthwhile East Tennessee initiatives by making significant grants to Legacy Parks Foundation, Knoxville Area Urban League and East Tennessee Veterans Memorial Association

“At First Tennessee, our ability to give back to our community is a direct result of our local business success,” said Pam Fansler, president of First Tennessee-Knoxville. “We are grateful to our customers for their loyalty and support.”

Legacy Parks Foundation: Grant amount: $25,000. “We’re very pleased to have First Tennessee’s support,” said Carol Evans, executive director of the Foundation. “This generous grant puts us over the top in our fundraising to purchase a beautifully wooded, 11-acre site for a park in the heart of the Halls. This will serve as the hub of an expanded greenway and park system.”

Legacy Parks Foundation works to promote and preserve exceptional recreational opportunities, natural beauty and open space for the enjoyment of the citizens of East Tennessee now and in the future.

Knoxville Area Urban League: Grant amount: $20,000 over two years. “The Urban League greatly appreciates such strong support from First Tennessee, especially during these troubled economic times,” said Dr. Sherman Jones, vice president and chief operating officer of Knoxville Area Urban League. “We’ll use the grant to fund badly needed foreclosure counseling in the Knoxville and Morristown areas.”

The mission of the Urban League movement is to enable African Americans and other disadvantaged groups to secure economic self-reliance, parity and power and civil rights.

East Tennessee Veterans Memorial Association: Grant amount: $25,000. “This grant demonstrates why First Tennessee is a first-class corporate citizen,” said Kimberley Lauth, executive director of the Association. “We’re thrilled to receive this grant, which will be used to fund educational programs relating to the memorial. By helping us recognize our veterans, it’s a major benefit to the people of East Tennessee.”

The East Tennessee Veterans Memorial Association is spearheading a project to construct a memorial and Veterans History Center to honor veterans from 35 East Tennessee counties. The memorial will be constructed at World’s Fair Park, with the history center located adjacent to that site at the historic L&N Railroad Station.
