Knox County Commissioner R. Larry Smith, Hillcrest HealthCare President and CEO Carolyn Pointer, Hillcrest-Beverly Foundation board member Martha Weaver and Hillcrest HealthCare board member Norm Kratschmer cut the ribbon on Hillcrest’s new resident bus on Friday, Sept. 26. “Day trips for long-term care residents promote physical and social well-being along with improving morale by allowing residents to do things they have enjoyed all their life,” said Mickie Thomas, resident support services director for Hillcrest West.
The bus, which features a wheelchair lift, has space for eight passengers in wheelchairs and three additional passengers.
“This new bus helps us further our mission to serve, respect, preserve the dignity and celebrate the lives of our residents” said Hillcrest President and CEO Carolyn Pointer.
The bus was funded by private donors including Heritage Healthcare; Gene Pickett of Senior Health Consultants; Sodexo; Statcare Hospitalist Group; and Wayne Kline of Hodges, Doughty and Carson. Donations are still being accepted for the bus. Those interested in donating may call the Hillcrest-Beverly Foundation at (865) 246-4013.
