First Tennessee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September. 4, 2008

MORE THAN BANKERS AT FIRST TENNESSEE, THEY’RE VOLUNTEERS

In 2007, First Tennessee Bank, First Tennessee Foundation and First Tennessee-Knoxville employees contributed more than $1 million to nonprofit organizations and community initiatives in Knoxville and Knox County, according to the 2007 First Tennessee Community Investment Report released this week.

At First Tennessee, however, they’re more than bankers – they’re volunteers. In addition to this monetary contribution, First Tennessee employees have invested thousands of hours of their time in their communities. In 2007, 242 First Tennessee-Knoxville employees volunteered nearly 6,300 hours to support more than 200 organizations and their events.

First Tennessee employees participate in the Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters in April 2007 at Western Avenue Strike and Spare. More than one hundred First Tennessee employees took part in the event.

First Tennessee also matches 50 percent of employees’ personal contributions to nonprofit organizations, up to $2,000 per employee per year. Each year, including 2007, the bank’s employee matching donations exceed $100,000 in contributions to local organizations.

“At First Tennessee, our reputation comes from who we are and how we do business. To us, giving back to the community is the right thing to do,” said Pam Fansler, president of First Tennessee-Knoxville. “In addition to our many hours of employee volunteerism, First Tennessee has a board-directed policy of giving back to our communities 1 to 2 percent of the previous year’s pre-tax earnings. Our ability to serve the community is therefore a direct result of our local business success, and we are grateful to our customers for their loyalty and support.”

At First Tennessee, each of the bank’s regions is empowered to make community investment decisions based on local needs. For Knoxville, this translated into support primarily in the areas of education; United Way and general welfare partners; economic development; children; health; and the arts.

In 2007, First Tennessee also received the 2007 Equal Opportunity Awards Volunteer of the Year award from the Knoxville Area Urban League, the 2007 Corporate Sponsor of the Year award from Goodwill Industries-Knoxville Inc. and the 2007 “Best Bank” designation for the eighth consecutive year in the News Sentinel’s annual readers’ poll.
