FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 13, 2008

RURAL/METRO IS STATE’S ONLY ACCREDITED AMBULANCE SERVICE

Rural/Metro of Tennessee is the only ambulance service provider in the state credentialed by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services.

To commemorate this accreditation, Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale and Knox County Commission Chairman Tank Strickland presented Rural/Metro officials and employees with the new accreditation seal on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 1 p.m. at the Ambulance Operations Center.

“This re-accreditation signifies that Rural/Metro continues to meet the highest standard for the ambulance industry,” said Rob Webb, Rural/Metro of Tennessee division general manager.

The year-long and rigorous accreditation process involves a third-party inspection and review of every aspect of the ambulance service.

“It is a testament to the exceptional work and dedication of our employees,” said Webb.

Rural/Metro of Tennessee is the largest emergency service provider in East Tennessee, with a combined work force of more than 500 firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, telecommunicators and other support personnel. Rural/Metro Ambulance Service is the only accredited provider in the state, with contracts for 911 service in Knox, Blount, Loudon and Franklin counties. Rural/Metro Fire Department is the third-largest in the state and has provided fire protection for Knox County since 1977. Rural/Metro Corporation provides emergency and non-emergency medical transportation, fire protection, and other safety services in 22 states and approximately 365 communities throughout the United States.
