PARTNERS DEVELOPMENT CELEBRATES TOPPING OUT AT OAK RIDGE ASSOCIATED UNIVERSITIES
Partners Development and Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) recently held a topping out ceremony for ORAU’s new Center for Science Education, located at 301 Raccoon Rd. in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
At the ceremony, the last beam was placed at the highest point of the building, which signifies that the infrastructure is in place. An evergreen tree was then placed at the top corner of the building to symbolize growth and bring luck.
The 75,000-square-foot Center for Science Education will feature a technology classroom and house the executive offices of the university. Construction is scheduled to be completed in February 2009.
“The technology classroom will be the focal feature of the building and will be used to demonstrate to educators various forms of current and future classroom technology,” said Jim Townsend, Partners Development project manager. “The building will also be LEED certified, demonstrating the client’s commitment to the environment and developing sustainable facilities.”
Buildings receive LEED certification by complying with guidelines set by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ from the U.S. Green Building Council. Over the past three years, Partners has developed 10 LEED projects ranging from libraries to medical office buildings to manufacturing and distribution centers.
