EARTH DAY RETURNS TO SAM E. HILL AS SEEDS BECOME SEEDLINGS
Volunteers help children plant vegetables in new garden

Less than a month after children began an Earth Day project by planting seeds in cups, volunteers from U.S. Cellular were back at Sam E. Hill Family Community Center recently to help with the next step – placing the seedlings into a new vegetable garden behind the school.

The effort is part of U.S. Cellular’s Project Green initiative in Tennessee. U.S. Cellular associates celebrated Earth Day in April by landscaping around the school and created a new garden where the preschoolers can help grow the plants. Each student was given a cup full of dirt and seeds to start growing inside the classrooms. A few weeks later, the seeds had sprouted and were ready to be planted.

“This project helps the children actually see what happens when you take care of something,” said Mamosa Foster, administrator at Sam E. Hill Family Community Center. “The children are so excited and we are looking forward to watching the plants grow.”

“There are many different ways to help out in Knoxville,” said Jack Brundige, director of sales for Tennessee. “We enjoy this as much as the kids do.”

U.S. Cellular is the nation's sixth-largest wireless service carrier, providing wireless service to 6.2 million customers in 26 states. The Chicago-based company employs 8,700 associates and operates on a customer satisfaction strategy, meeting customer needs by providing a comprehensive range of wireless products and services, superior customer support, and a high-quality network.
